Stefanini continuing their rise to the top

The CFL tournament continued last Saturday, May 30, at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig. Stefanini took another 4 points with a very convincing 6-0 win against Sunlife, and another tie, this time against DKS, which was a very exciting match ending in 0-0.

Although the Sunlife-B team had not previously won in this tournament, Stefanini was not about to underestimate any opponent, and gave it all they had. Possession of the ball was mostly in our hands from the start and the pressure was on Sunlife immediately. It wasn't long until Nabi scored the first goal of the day, which he would repeat several more times. Also Sylva found the goal several times that day, assisted by Tom and Daniel. The Sunlife team were hardpressed and their attacks were all rebutted by our midfield and defence. Sweet was playing for the first time this tournament and we also welcomed Tetams to the team for the very first time. They were alternating the midfield with Mae and Yvonne, who were both definitely increasing their soccer skills. A very strong defence with Cy, Franck, Willem, Blue and Josh meant that keeper Yves had very little to do. In fact he only touched the ball twice in the whole match.

After 25 minutes and 6 goals in our favour, the ref whistled off and we could take a rest before the second match.

As we expected, the DKS team would me much more of a challenge. Currently ranked 2nd in the tournament, they had been watching us play against Sunlife and knew the stengths of our team. They played a very defensive game, relying on their two strong strikers to score a goal in their favour, while most of their team remained on their own half to counter our attacks. Possession was again in our favour, however try though we might, we could not get past the 7 keepers. Plenty of shots on goal, none managed to find its way in the net.

Their counter strategy also did not pay out as they wanted, as the defence, helped a lot this match by keeper Yves, managed to stop all attempts in the end. We got a lucky getaway with a shot to the right goalpost, and a superb rescue by Cy, who managed to kick the ball from the backline after the keeper was passed. After a thrilling match, a tie was felt as welldeserved for both teams, who were evenly matched.

The four points bring us to a total of 8. Although not all other results are in, we know that our two greatest competitors, W. Hill and DKS, made this day. W.Hill, still undefeated, won against DKS earlier on the day and tied against Petron, also giving them 4 points, with which they will keep the lead (10 points). DKS however, with only a tie and a loss, got only 1 point for todays efforts. With their previous second place and 6 points, this brings them to a total of 7. This means that Stefanini has overtaken them in the competition, and now, depending on the scores of the other teams, now probably stands in a second place.

Next weeks match against W. Hill promises to be an exciting one, and we are hopeful to be able to score another 3 points against B&M GSM. So come and watch, at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig, and don't forget to send in your fan pictures via the contact site!
